Black Panther Filming Start Date Revealed

Following his live-action film debut in Captain America: Civil War, T’Challa (as played by Chadwick Boseman) is going to be starring in his own solo Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, in Black Panther. The Black Panther film will be the first Marvel Studios movie to feature a black superhero as its protagonist. The screenplay for the movie was co-written by Joe Robert Cole and Ryan Coogler (Creed), with the latter serving as the film’s director too.


Though Black Panther has been in development for nearly two years now, a limited amount of information about the movie has been officially revealed up to this point – saving for casting updates, with the latest involving Angela Bassett being cast as T’Challa’s mother. Being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe however, expectations are high for Coogler’s superhero movie.

On Location Vacations is reporting that filming on Black Panther is set to begin in the very near future, per an article on OLV‘s website that cites multiple sources. According to the report, Black Panther begins filming in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 2017; meaning there’s just a month left until principal photography starts, from the time of writing this. The movie will be using Pinewood Atlanta Studios as its base throughout production in Georgia, like Civil War before it. This also confirms a previous report that Black Panther would start filming in January 2017 and continue on through to May of that year.



This confirmation of filming dates should come as a breath of fresh air for those who were waiting to hear more Black Panther news. With a theatrical release date set for February 2018, that gives those working on the movie just over 12 months to make sure they get everything right.

It looks likely Disney/Marvel Studios are on the right path to ensuring the Black Panther movie release goes without a hitch. If they combine that with an incredible plot and perhaps some Easter Eggs for the super fans out there who have read the Black Panther comic books, then we could be looking at one of Marvel’s most successful films.

The talent behind the camera on Black Panther – including, but not limited to, the critically-acclaimed Coogler – is similarly matched by the caliber of the film’s cast. In addition to Boseman and Bassett, the Black Panther cast includes Creed star Michael B. Jordan as the villainous Erik Killmonger and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, a member of the Dora Milaje (T’Challa’s bodyguards). Their costars include Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker (Arrival), Winston Duke (Person of Interest) and Danai Gurira – aka. Michonne on The Walking Dead.
